Washington (Reuters) – The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment concessions fell last week, while the unemployment rate seemed to be steady in March.

The initial claims for state unemployment concessions have been reduced to 224,000 times a week ended on March 22, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Reuters voted economists have predicted 225,000 claims for the latest week.

The government has revised the claim data from 2020 to 2024, according to normal practice. New seasonal factors have been introduced to 2025 to eliminate seasonal fluctuations from data.

The seasonal factors from 2020 to 2024 were revised.

Although there is no significant choice of filing unemployment compensation by federal workers, the claims in the Washington DC Metropolitan region have risen to neighboring Maryland and parts of Virginia.
