Though it remains unknown to a number of Wilf Campus students, a variety of part-time job opportunities is available on campus. Yeshiva's Office for Human Resources is staffed with individuals who can help with Student Employment opportunities, including students eligible for the Federal Work-Study program or not, in many of the offices and departments around the University.
According to Human Resources, most students looking for a part-time job know to look on their office's student employment bulletin board, located in Belfer 206. For students who may be less aware, Human Resources recently asked the Office of University Housing and Residential Life to distribute notices of employment opportunities on RA bulletin boards.
In addition, to alert incoming students of job opportunities, Human Resources placed an information flyer in the orientation packages this semester.
Under general program guidelines, Wilf Campus students working part-time may work up to fifteen hours a week while college is in session. To accommodate students' academic responsibilities, Human Resources asks departments in which it places students, to collaborate accordingly in order to structure arrangements that work for both the student and the department.
The Human Resource staff believes that there is a wide range of positions in which students can work during the academic year. Student event assistant, archival assistant, campus tour guide, library student assistant, and working as a waiter on Shabbat are among the part-time job opportunities listed by Human Resources.
Most positions require basic office and clerical skills while some, such as subject tutor and lifeguard, require more expertise, experience, and oftentimes official certifications.
Joel Feldman (YC '09) works part-time for the Mechinah Program and for the Office for Housing and Residential Life. Feldman, a Mechinah student, credits the faculty with finding a job for him while he learned about the opportunity to work in Housing from friends. "I help out both departments, whether it be getting breakfast ready for Mechinah or helping hang signs for Housing. I am appreciative for the opportunity and it provides me with money for various needs," explained Feldman.
Similar to Feldman's job with the Housing Office, Jonathan Pelzner (SSSB '09) found a part-time job as a Shabbat waiter through friends. "Waiting tables was a great find for me," said Pelzner. "A dual-curriculum keeps me very busy over the course of the week. The opportunity to make extra money during the weekends allows me to focus better on shiur and school work during the bulk of the week."
Payment for part-time work on the Wilf Campus is made directly to students.
Students can also learn more about opportunities by visiting Yeshiva Human Resources job postings on the University website at http://www.yu.edu/hr/yuhr.asp. In addition, interested students can call Mr. Noam Joel, the Human Resources Department Presidential Fellow located in Belfer 214; Joel may be reached at (347) 266-4666.
