In response to the growing interest in dental school among YU students, the pre-dental society was privileged to host Dr. Melvin Adler and Dr. Tara Roffe on Monday, October 23. Dr. Melvin Adler is a private general dentist who also sits on the board of the Columbia University School of Dentistry and was glad to have the opportunity to address and perhaps inspire students about dentistry. Dr. Adler invited a colleague of his, Dr. Tara Roffe, an endodontist, to address the students and answer their questions.

Dr. Adler shared a lot of important, valuable, and practical information about the dental school admissions process – everything from the first handshake and how to dress for an interview, to all the extra-curricular activities that should be on one's resumé. Much of what Dr. Adler discussed was based on his many opportunities to conduct interviews as well as review applications. "Anything that you can think of, put it on your resume," stated Dr. Adler. "You never know if your interviewer will be interested in the same thing."

There was quite a nice turnout, totaling about 40 pre-dental students, around 20 from each campus, as well as Ms. Whitney Bennett, the new YU pre-health advisor. Elie Brecher, a pre-dental student, thought that it was a worthwhile event and told The Commentator that "it was very informative, and I really enjoyed it."

The speakers and the event in general were coordinated by David Moisa on the Wilf Campus and Rachel Gittleman on the Beren Campus. The pre-dental society is planning on having many more events in the future, so keep an eye out for signs and emails.
