REITS Roshei Kollel Rabbi Hershel Schachter and Rabbi Mordechai Willig recently agreed to take on significant advisory roles at Yeshivas Beis Hillel in Passaic, New Jersey. The Roshei Kollel will supervise all of the school's religious decisions.
Yeshivas Beis Hillel is a co-educational elementary school, with separate programs for boys and girls beginning in the first grade. The school's mission statement declares it to be "a well established yeshiva committed to the growth of the Total Torah Child." The mission statement goes on to describe the school's specific goals, some of which are "to imbue each student with a love of Torah and Yiddishkeit," "to provide a superior education in both Judaic and General Studies," and "to infuse a love of Eretz Yisroel, Am Yisroel, Toras Yisroel, and Medinas Yisroel."
Eliezer Greenberger, Vice-President of Public Relations at Yeshivas Beis Hillel, issued a press release, stating that the Roshei Kollel will guide Yeshivas Beis Hillel in matters of philosophy and halakhic observance. "Currently," he wrote, "major policy decisions are made by a board of directors, while the principal determines hashkafic and halakhic matters. Under the new framework, Rabbis Schachter and Willig will not only help forge the yeshiva's religious outlook, but they will also interact with faculty and students, participate in community speaking engagements, and interact with the administration and YBH's Board of Education."
