Yes folks, the cross-country season has begun. Before YU students can settle into their new classes, let alone get into any groove, the cross-country team has already broken into a sweat or two. This is because the YU cross-country team is tremendously determined, resolute, and spirited. These runners have spent the summer training hard and now the fruits of their labor will finally pay off.
The first two races of YU’s season, September 9 and October 7, are already in the books. In the first race, the Baruch Men’s Cross-Country Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, YU sent six runners to the line, grabbing a fifth place team finish. Junior Arie Blum from Santiago, Chile, led the charge, finishing eighth in the race with a time of 33:46 minutes for five miles, only 1:40 behind the top Division III finisher.
In the second race, the Queensborough Community College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park, only two YU runners were able to participate, since it came at the end of Sukkot vacation. Sophomore Samuel Grossman from Merrick, NY placed 15th with a time of 33:46 minutes in a race boasting over 80 runners. The YU team has over ten runners overall, but because of various complications, has not yet been able to assemble its full force for battle.
Tune in for the results of future races as the upgraded Cross-Country team looks to blow away the competition.
