An indication that YC's push for more media and film courses has been successful, Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein YC Honors Program student Moish Brystowski ('09) was a finalist in a recent international film competition. Brystowski placed fourth in the "Green Film Competition" hosted by Friends of the Earth, a UK-based environmental group.

Brystowski's one-minute film, "Road Trip," was one of 130 one-minute videos submitted by contestants four months ago when the contest began. All the videos were submitted to YouTube.com and were available to be viewed by all Internet viewers.

Brystowski was then selected as one of 20 finalists whose short films were sent to be noted upon by a celebrity panel that included movie producers Andrew Macdonald and David Puttnam and other high-profile people in the film industry. After a month long final voting that concluded on September 30, Brystowski came in fourth place with only 13 points separating the first and sixth place finishers.

Denmark's Ulla Jacobsen won the contest for her short film entitled "The Plastic Battle."

Brystowski's film was the only American film that placed. The others were from the Australia, Denmark and the United Kingdom. "I'm pretty sure I don't win anything," Brystowski admitted, "but all the finalists receive a membership to \Shooting People\, an international independent filmmaking community."

"Road Trip," a film Brystowski describes as being "about God taking a trip with the manifestations of Nature and Man" can be viewed at his YouTube channel webpage at http://www.youtube.com/Moish711.

Brystowski credited YC with its recent attempt to add media to its curricula options and is thankful for the guidance these courses have given him in his two first semesters on the Wilf Campus. Brystowski added, "I'm very excited that YC is finally fulfilling its promise to incorporate film studies and filmmaking into its curriculum. I think it shows that they understand the direction that media and current events are moving in and are accepting them instead of rejecting them."
