Fresh cut fairways, perfectly watered greens, and the sun beating down on your back are always pleasant reminders of one of the greatest sports of all time, golf. A couple of years back, Yeshiva University added a golf team to its list of Division III NCAA programs. Led by team captain Robbie Silverman, last year's team was pretty solid and didn't give up any easy matches. David Dayan, member of the golf team (and also captain of the baseball team), believes that the team is getting better on the course. "Over the last few years there has been an improvement on the team in its performance during matches and this upcoming year we expect to surpass last year's results and reach our goals," Dayan said.

Coached by David Neiss, the team practices in Edgewater, New Jersey right over the George Washington Bridge. Other members of last year's team included Joshua Lasky, Seth Greenspan, Jason Eisenmen and Max Gornish. As one of the newer teams at YU, the golf team needs to show that it belongs with the other sports programs.

Lasky, one of the team's star players agrees. "It's tough when you're just starting out at a school. Many people aren't interested; it's hard to get people to join the team because it is quite a commitment. Personally, I believe that this team will grow and become more popular."

As of now, the team hasn't seemed to create much buzz around the school but some students are taking notice to what is going on. Nat Montag, a junior from Merrick, New York, is not such an avid golf fan but is friends with a couple of kids on the team.

"Whenever I speak to anyone about the golf team, they seem to just nod off and not pay attention to what I am saying," said Montag. "However, I find it very interesting that while talking to those who are interested, the level of excitement in the conversation is just like of any other major sport at Yeshiva."

This type of enthusiasm can show that perhaps one day the golf team will become one of the more popular sports in the school and more and more students will try out for the team.

Looking ahead towards this upcoming season, the golf team has a lot to be optimistic about.

This upcoming golf season will present many challenges for the team, but the players say they are looking forward to overcoming these difficulties and showing YU and the schools they play against exactly what they are made of.
