NFC East- A lot of catching up to do
Philadelphia Eagles:
A Predictable Review: Philly has had virtually the same roster for the better part of the decade. Their only significant FA acquisition was signing the immortal QB Mike McMahon (pray that Donavan doesn't get hurt, Eagles fans.....) People seem to forget that the Eagles were pretty good before TO came along....The defense hasn't gotten any younger, but NFC teams haven't figured out how to score on them yet.
Forecast: Still the class of the NFC, but the kid with the highest average in the 'B' Class usually doesn't win valedictorian.
Washington Redskins:
If, one day, I am the 30th best in the country at my profession, I will probably be delighted. Redskins fans should take solace then, that quarterback Patrick Ramsay could very well be the 30th best at his chosen profession. Surely, whomever the Dolphins throw out there will be worse. You can make a case that Ramsay is superior to Tim Rattay, Trent Dilfer, and perhaps even Joey Harrington or the permanently injured Rex Grossman. Thirtieth sounds accurate because presumably there is a backup or two better than Mr. Ramsay.
Forecast: The Redskins defense was spectacular (# 1 statistically) last year and they lost 10 games. Now, they've lost CB Fred Smoot and LB Antonio Pierce, and safety Sean Taylor may have to go to jail during the season. Hey, no one forced Joe Gibbs to come back.
New York Giants:
The Giants outspent everyone this offseason, but to what effect? Paying $35 million to a guy who wasn't one of the top 3 OL on his team sounds frivolous, and Plaxico Burress has been underwhelming in Pittsburgh since 2002. LB Antonio Pierce was so good last year that he would have been a steal at any price.
Stat you can't live without: In Brandon Jacobs and Jared Lorenzen, the Giants posses both the heaviest QB and RB in football.....
Forecast: Barring a Peyton-like sophomore improvement for Eli, it's hard to imagine the Giants being better than 8-8.
