YU Fined $50,000 for Posting ACS Test on Website

After months of litigation, Yeshiva University and former Assistant Professor Wayne Schnatter were ordered to pay $50,000 to the American Chemical Society (ACS). According to the ACS, Schnatter illegally posted two copyrighted ACS examinations on the YU website between May and December, 2002.

As Charles Snow of the Sy Syms School of Business (SSSB) finishes up his last month as dean, his successor has not yet been named. Assistant Dean Ira L. Jaskoll has been appointed interim dean after Snow submitted his resignation at the end of the last academic year. The current hole in the SSSB administration raises questions as to where SSSB is headed in the future.

IBC Loophole Abolished by YC Faculty

All first year incoming students will be greeted by a new school policy as they begin the 2005 fall semester. The new policy states that all students must now graduate with twenty Jewish studies credits on their transcript. This should strike a blow to the practice of taking a year off from the Talmudic morning programs of the Mazer Yeshiva Program (MYP) or the Stone Beit Midrash Program (SBMP) to alleviate Jewish studies course requirements in Isaac Breuer College (IBC) courses.

Ed Fox, President's Chief of Staff, Leaves After Two-Year Stint

Edward Fox will not be returning this coming academic year to his position as the president's Chief of Staff. He has left Yeshiva University after two years of being the right hand man of President Richard Joel. The President has said that a search for a new Chief of Staff has begun.

Joel Elected to CICU Board

Following the conclusion of the previous academic year, the Committee of Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) announced the election of Yeshiva University President Richard Joel to its Board of Trustees. The CICU is a statewide organization of over 100 independent colleges and universities whose members enroll some 440,000 students.

Local Building Vandalized with Swastikas; Suspect Confesses

On August 5, swastikas were painted throughout a building in the Yeshiva area, covering the threshold of almost every apartment with a mezuzah on the doorpost. That same day, police took a suspect into custody for the crime, and the suspect confessed, according to the New York Post.

YU Steps Up Presence in Israel
