Yeshiva students have been in an up-roar for several weeks due to an unpopular move by the Department of Food Services. Often criticized for its outrageous prices in the cafeteria, the department is responsible for many food sales venues on campus. The Campus Shop, (know as the "Caf Store" to most students) is located in the basement of Rubin Hall and is one of the department's most popular attractions. Yeshiva students depend on the Caf store to keep their dorm rooms well stocked and to provide them with well timed snacks. When the store recently limited its hours to the morning and afternoon, doing away with the 10:30 PM-1:00 AM shift, students were outraged.

"The Caf store was a very convenient place for a late night snack. There are a lot of people like me who are now forced to shop at the bodegas after a long night of studying. I don't think I'm alone when I say that I am frustrated and hope to see them re-open soon," said Moshe Frist, Yeshiva College '06

"I'm outraged by the new hours. Of all the times to be open, it's the late night shift that guys like me depend on. If the store's purpose is serve the student body then it needs to be open at night. That's the time when we want it the most," added Yonatan Picard, Sy Syms School of Business '06.

One former caf store student employee blames the store's closing on several mishaps. Although rumors have circulated that the store was robbed on several occasions, resulting in the new hours, sources in the Food Services department said it was more because students were "hanging out in the store" and "socializing with the store operators."

"The straw that broke the camel's back was that one night the [store operators] didn't make sure all of the refrigerators were closed and a lot of food had to be thrown out because of it," said a manager in the Food Services department. The manager did confirm that the store had been robbed from as well, but he was led to believe that it was unrelated.
