On Sunday October 18, over 400 students, doctors, and other professionals gathered on Yeshiva University’s Wilf campus for the YU Medical Ethics Society’s fourth annual conference. This year’s conference discussed Jewish perspectives on modern genetics. The series of lectures took place in Furst 501, but was simultaneously video-broadcast in several other Furst Hall classrooms due to the large attendance.
The topics covered in the conference included reproductive genetics, cancer genetics, personalized medicine, aging and longevity, as well as how Halacha approaches these complex issues. Additionally, each participant selected specialized discussion tracks, choosing from genetics and the law, DNA and forensics, behavioral genetics, DNA and the Shoah, and Familial Dysautonomia (FD). Leading rabbis, physicians, and attorneys led each discussion.
