A Captain's Lament

As Olympic legend Carl Lewis once said, "Life is about timing." His wisdom proves true, but in this particular instance the students who participate in basketball intramurals are dealing with mistiming. Eight days after the intramural draft, one week after the first game, and twelve hours before the second week of competition was set to begin, the one-hundred-twelve member intramural basketball program was informed that, starting immediately, referees would no longer be provided for intramurals.

After the suspension of last year's season, the Yeshiva University wrestling team looks towards this year to get back on track. Captains Ari Simchi (Fair Lawn, NJ/ Frisch) and Isaac Kuyunov (Hollis, NY), lead Coach Ellman's Maccabees with only two other returning wrestlers, Jeremy Jaffe (Monsey, NY/TABC) and Max Saltzman (Lincolnwood, IL/Ida Crown).

The Yeshiva University men's basketball team - participants in last year's Skyline Conference semifinals - finds itself facing a similar challenge, albeit under highly different circumstances.

Hall of Fame football coach Tom Landry once said, "If you are prepared, you will be confident, and will do the job." In order for this year's Maccabees to succeed they must do one thing: be confident in themselves and each other.
