Rabbi Shmidman To Step Down as Dean

In a move that signifies an end of an era at Yeshiva University, Rabbi Michael Shmidman will be stepping down from his post as Dean of Judaic Studies, effective at the end of the academic year. Although his position has not yet been articulated fully, Rabbi Shmidman will remain at YU next fall.

As it concludes its first full year of work, the YC Curriculum Review now enters a phase believed critical by administrators: deciding how credit should be divvied up between major and general requirements.

Noach Lerman To Edit Commentator Next Year

Noach Lerman (YC '09) has been elevated to Editor-in-Chief for The Commentator next fall, outgoing Editor-in-Chief Zev Eleff announced. Lerman, a Jay and Jeannie Schottenstein Honors Student and enrolled in MYP, served as a news editor for the newspaper this year.

Active Minds Closes This Year, Plans for Next Year

Susan Mason Appointed Chair of Political Science and Sociology

Next year, Dr. Susan Mason will join the faculty of Yeshiva College as chair of the political science and sociology departments. A professor at Yeshiva's Wurzweiler School of Social Work for over ten years, Mason has been appointed to lead these two departments within YC.

The beginning of each semester is often a time filled with a certain amount of anxiety and uncertainty for the undergraduate student body of Yeshiva University. As students prepare to confront the rigorous demands of Yeshiva's dual curriculum, the excitement brought on by the anticipation of the new avenues for their intellectual and academic advancement is often tempered by various questions that naturally accompany the new semester and its encounter with the unknown.
