Bernard Revel Graduate School Dean Arthur Hyman will be vacating his post at year's end, making way for a radical change in academic Jewish studies courses taught on the Wilf Campus. According to University Provost Mort Lowengrub, his Office for Academic Affairs will be appointing a single administrator to run Yeshiva College's Jewish Studies Department and oversee Revel Graduate School, too.
"The idea is to unify all divisions of the Wilf Campus' Jewish Studies courses and eventually its faculties," Dr. Lowengrub told The Commentator. "There are still hurdles and technical issues we need to clear, but this is a major step in Yeshiva's attempt to become the premiere center of academic Jewish studies in the United States."
"Dr. Hyman has served as one of Yeshiva's great Torah u-Madda scholars," said Dr. Lowengrub. "We look forward to his continuation at YU and the immeasurable knowledge he shares with students."
Dr. Hyman, a well respected Maimonidean scholar for decades, will continue to teach courses at the Graduate School.
"When I started this job, Rabbi Lamm told me I would only have to be dean of Revel for one year," said Dean Hyman. "Fifteen years later and they're finally letting me step down."
