The Yeshiva University baseball program, which began in the winter of 2004, made noise last week when the only coach the team ever had, Norman Ringel was dismissed from his position as Head Coach of the Yeshiva University Baseball Macs. Ringel had previously coached high school baseball for thirty years.
In his stead, Logan Mauzy, the current Assistant Director of Athletics and former college baseball player, has temporarily added on the title of interim coach to his list of positions on Yeshiva staff.
Several players were unhappy with the decision. Prior to Mauzy's hiring, largely due to player demand and concern over who the incoming coach would be, rumors flew that Ringel would be reinstated as coach. However, the Athletic Department decided to move forward with Mauzy as acting coach.
Tryouts for prospective players, due to begin last week, have been rescheduled and postponed until Thursday, September 25.
Reasons for Ringel's termination are unclear as of this time.
